Privacy policy
The short version: Catamount has no accounts, does not ask for your name or email, and keeps your scores on your own device. We count anonymous usage to improve the game, and ads are provided by Google AdSense. The details are below.
Who we are
Catamount (catamount.io) is created by Alvier Studios. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Alvier Studios. You can reach us at hello@catamount.io.
What stays on your device
Catamount stores the following in your browser's local storage, on your device only. We cannot see it and it is never sent to us:
- your climb history, scores, answers and day streak;
- your sound settings (music and effects on or off);
- your ad choice, personalized or non-personalized.
This is the reason progress does not move between devices. You can erase it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
What we do not collect
We do not ask you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or precise location, and we do not use your answers to build a profile of you.
Anonymous usage counts
When you use the game, your browser sends a small anonymous event to our server, for example that the page loaded, that a game started, that a question was answered and whether it was close, how long it took, and whether the game was finished. Each event includes general details such as the page, the game version, your approximate country (from your connection), your device type (mobile, tablet or desktop), the website that referred you, and technical details such as screen width and load time.
To count how many different people play on a given day, our server creates a one-way hash from your IP address, browser type, the date and a secret value. The hash changes every day, so it cannot be used to follow anyone from one day to the next, and we do not store your IP address with the events. This measurement does not use cookies and does not store anything on your device. We do not send these events if your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. We use the counts only to understand how the game is used and to improve it. They are stored with Cloudflare, which keeps them for a limited period.
Advertising and cookies
Catamount is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to serve ads, to measure how they perform, and, if you allow it, to personalize them based on your activity on this and other sites. We do not control these cookies and do not receive the data they collect.
The first time you visit, a banner lets you allow personalized ads or keep ads non-personalized. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the banner back. You can also:
- read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites;
- manage your Google ad settings at adssettings.google.com;
- opt out of many third-party vendors' personalized advertising at aboutads.info, or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.com;
- block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare processes the technical information that your browser sends with every request, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and keep it secure. Cloudflare's own privacy policy applies to that processing.
Fonts
The game loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests them from Google's servers and Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
Links to other sites
This policy applies to catamount.io only. Sites we link to have their own policies.
Children
Catamount is a general audience game and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Because we hold no accounts and do not store information that identifies you, there is usually nothing for us to look up or delete. Still, depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, to object to certain processing, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising. We do not sell personal information. You can use the ad choices above, and you can write to us at any time to make a request or ask a question.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
